Welcome to Huntingdon Rugby Union Football Club's under 9's mini squad. Some of the boys in this squad are playing for their 4th season. At this age group we look to develop ball handling skills as well as starting to introduce some more technical aspects of rugby. As always our main aim is to provide a fun and safe environment for the boys to enjoy the excitement of playing competitive rugby. This season sees some significant changes to the game with the removal of tags and the introduction of non-contested 6 man scrums; I have listed the key changes going up from the under 8's to the under 9's below:-

Teams increase from 7 to 9 players on the pitch
The coach is no longer on the pitch
Np tag belts, full contact but no hand offs
6 man (3 on each team) scrums
Opposing team must be 7 metres away for penalty starts
Receiver of the penalty pass must be NO more than 2 metres away
The passer of a retake ball must NOT dummy pass
Rucks (ball/player on the ground with a minimum of two players form their team stepping over) and Mauls (ball in hand with another player from the same team and one from the opposition held together)
Uncontested Lineouts

This season also sees an increase in triangular fixtures and festivals, along with the coach's assessing all players throughout the season for the end of year awards!
